David Williamson's LET THE SUNSHINE Set for Cremorne Theatre, 4/12-5/15

By:

Noosa's playground for the rich and retired becomes a comic battleground in David Williamson's Let the Sunshine. With a cast that includes Paul Ashcroft, Robert Coleby, Rachel Gordon, Andrea Moor, Jacki Weaver and Gold Logie-winner John Wood, Let the Sunshine is Williamson's latest romantic satire that reflects on issues facing a modern Romeo and Juliet.

Toby and Ros are retired left wing radicals who flee to Noosa to escape scandal in Sydney. There they meet Natasha and Ron - a shallow socialite and a brash property developer. When their children find romance together, the patter of tiny feet brings on the clashing of egos ...

Director Michael Gow says, "Behind the social comedy that Williamson is so well known for, there's another play here. A wonderful Romeo and Juliet love story; two radically different families are blended, by two lost kids in love, into a larger relationship. David can still skewer Australian society but he's also written a tender, deeply questioning play about parents, children and love."

Let the Sunshine shows us the parental arguments that a contemporary Romeo and Juliet face; political beliefs, child-rearing, IKEA furniture assembly and what career choices say about parenting methods.
