Celebrate 40 years of ABBA with the QPAC Choir

By:

It's been 40 years since 70s super pop group ABBA first toured Down Under!

In March 1977, they toured to every capital city in Australia, but Brisbane missed out. ABBA Mania was in full flight at that time and there was a huge outcry from the Brisbane fans. Even the Premier of Queensland at the time, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, writing a personal letter to the Swedish super group didn't result in a Brisbane concert.

So to rectify this and mark this milestone, the QPAC Choir's annual showcase concert Thank You For The Music: An ABBA Celebration will be presented as part of the Queensland Cabaret Festival on Tuesday 6 June 2017 in Queensland Performing Arts Centre's (QPAC's) Concert Hall.

Following the popular 2016 QPAC Choir showcase concert A Soul Celebration, the 140-voice QPAC Choir, under choirMaster Timothy Sherlock, will perform a selection of some of the most popular ABBA songs ever written.

QPAC invites ABBA fans to dust off their white knee high boots and get ready to groove to magnificent choral arrangements of ABBA's biggest hits including Mamma Mia, Super Trouper, Chiquitita, Waterloo, SOS, Money, Money, Money, Take A Chance On Me, The Name Of The Game, Fernanado, The Winner Takes It All and Dancing Queen in a concert that promises to have the audience dancing in the aisles.

ChoirMaster Timothy Sherlock is an unashamed ABBA fan who said the annual showcase concert was the perfect opportunity to showcase the wonderful music of ABBA and the talents of the QPAC Choir.

"Last year we were able to boogie to Motown favourites in A Soul Celebration, and this year the Choir is equally excited to be performing the ABBA songs we all know so well.

"This will be a celebration of all the ABBA classics we have come to enjoy from this super group who were reportedly blown away by the enthusiasm of their Australian fans during their inaugural visit four decades ago. The music has timeless appeal and choir members are especially keen to share the result of months of rehearsals," said Mr Sherlock.

The showcase concert will feature a live eight-piece band, with special guest performers including 3rd year students from the Bachelor of Musical Theatre course at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.

Thank You For The Music: An ABBA Celebration will transport you back in time! Don't miss the opportunity to sing along to your favourite songs performed live by the QPAC Choir in QPAC's Concert Hall. To book go to qpac.com.au or phone 136-246
