Callum Watson Group, an acclaimed ensemble combining four of Australia's leading young classical performers and jazz improvisers is set to make their highly anticipated return to North Melbourne on Saturday 24 March (9pm) for the first show of an exclusive three month residency at Club Voltaire. Known for their 'exciting', genre-spanning and theatrical performances that fuse elements of classical and jazz, the group will showcase their extraordinary musicianship in a diverse program including works by Holiday, Doppler and Honegger as well as compositions by the groups leader Callum Watson.

"We want to bring classical and jazz music to those who may otherwise not be exposed to it" says Watson who is also a Margaret Schofield Scholarship alumni. "Our modern recitals will be an entertaining experience for audiences leaving a lasting impression". Watson will be joined in North Melbourne by ensemble members Jessica Zuk (flute) and Joel Hands-Otte (clarinet) with guest appearances by Flora Carbo (Alto Saxophone).

"I am excited about getting to play a few of my own compositions with this ensemble" Watson adds. "Composing for wind instruments presents endless possibilities for creativity".

As part of this residency, the group will be launching their debut CD featuring works recorded at St Andrews, Brighton in Victoria. The release includes predominantly compositions and arrangements by Australian Composers. "I am pleased that we have been able to make CD that is so distinctly Australian".

BOOKINGS: Tickets are available from voltaire.net.au

PROGRAM: Includes Watson Piano Trio No. 1, Watson One Note Sonata, Doppler Hungarian Pastoral Fantasy and Honegger Danse de la Chevre.
