"Echo of a refugee... me?" The new politically charged theatrical offering that confronts the earthquake of gentrification and the after-shocks still resonating, and the people left behind or displaced by this urban ill raging through Austin, TX.

This world premier play, this power fist to the machine, this protest song written by Austin Critics Hall of Fame Artist Zell Miller, III for ZM3LiveProductions will only have 4 showings. This hip-hop theater, jazz aesthetic performance will be Friday August 3rd and 10th and Saturday August 4th and 11th shows begin at 8pm. "Echo of a refugee.." will be staged at the Historic Santa Cruz Center located at 1805 E. 7th Street in Austin, TX 78702.

Urban anthropologist Zell Miller, III uses interview styles inspired by Anna Deavere Smith to cut through the mask of this city that likes to believe it's a true melting pot. Miller combined over 160 interviews over the past 7 years to create composite characters who will illuminate the issues of gentrification and all its malfeasance cousins like police brutality and over policing of areas, poor education systems, unaffordable housing, families who now have to commute more, traffic, air quality and quality of life for people of color and people who can't afford to live in the city limits. Miller, a master story teller and poet will not only offer rich 3-dimensional characters but also weave his audacious caustic words backed by two of Austin's finest musician Thomas Wheeler drummer and Sir-Charles on six string electric bass.

You will meet characters like Kwame a 10 year old black child who has moved 9 times in the last 2 years. Tommy a white 20 something activist who has a good heart but not real clear of his protest, J-Bo a black man in his mid-30's early 40's who has lived all his life in the projects and has seen first-hand the changing landscape of his city and a few other characters. "Echo of a refugee.." written by Zell Miller, III featuring Valoneecia Tolbert, Thomas Wheeler on Drums, Sir-Charles on Bass and Zell Miller, III and choreographed by Melissa Villarreal for Lotus Contemporary Dance Company
