Texas Performing Arts Presents Alison Balsom, 4/16

By: Mar. 19, 2013

Virtuoso trumpeter Alison Balsom joins the versatile and ambitious chamber music outfit, The Scottish Ensemble.

Recently crowned Female Artist of the Year for the second time at the Classic BRITs, Alison Balsom has cemented an international reputation as one of classical music's great ambassadors and is ranked among the most distinctive and groundbreaking musicians today.

In 2009, Balsom headlined the last night of the BBC Proms, viewed by an estimated global television audience of 200 million, and in December 2010 Balsom went on to make her U.S. television debut with the Orchestra of St. Luke's on The Late Show with David Letterman - a platform to which few classical artists have gained access.

Glasgow's Scottish Ensemble is a tight-knit band of outstanding musicians from Scotland and across Europe who perform regularly together under Artistic Director Jonathan Morton. This increasingly adventurous group has an enviable reputation for innovative commissioning and programming, performing interesting and unusual pieces alongside better-known repertoire.
