"Death and the Maiden" by Ariel Dorfman opens tonight, March 22nd at Sam Bass Community Theatre, directed by Veronica Prior.

Paulina Salas is the wife of a prominent lawyer in an unnamed South American country just out of a dictatorship. One day a flat tire forces her husband to ride home with a good Samaritan who comes to his aid. That chance encounter brings up demons from her past, as she is convinced that the man (Roberto Miranda) was part of the old fascist regime that tortured and raped her, while blindfolded. Paulina takes him captive to determine the truth. Paulina is guided by her psychological repressions and somber memories, Gerardo is torn between his wife and the law, and Dr. Miranda is forced to endure captivity while husband and wife seek out the uncertain truth about the clouded past. Will truth and justice prevail? Please be aware that this is a play for mature audiences and contains adult language and situations.

The cast features Frank Benge as Roberto Miranda, Cathie Sheridan as Paulina Salas and Ben Weaver as Gerardo Escobar.

This production is directed by Veronica Prior (Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune, Waiting for Godot, A Company of Wayward Saints)
