Newnan Community Theatre Presents A CHRISTMAS TWIST and SANTALAND DIARIES

It's the holiday season and we are ending our 2010 season with a special gift - two holiday shows, both guaranteed to be more fun than spiked eggnog!

Our first show is "A Christmas Twist" written by Doug Armstrong, Keith Cooper and Maureen Morley.

What "Blazing Saddles" did to the western, what "Young Frankenstein" did to the horror movie,  "A Christmas Twist" does to Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and "Oliver Twist". In a crazy mash-up of these two classics, Scrooge and the Cratchits are joined by Fagin, Mr. Bumble, three wacky ghosts, a gang of orphans, and a few surprise guests.

"A Christmas Twist" is directed by NCTC Managing Director Dave Dorrell and will be performed December 9, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18, and 19 on the Main Stage. Performances are at 8pm Fridays and Saturdays, with Sunday matinees at 2:30pm.

Our second helping of holiday cheer is "The Santaland Diaries" written by David Sedaris and starring Jeff Allen.

This one-man show is the story of an unemployed slacker who decides to become a Macy's elf during the holiday crunch.  At first the job is simply humiliating, but once the thousands of visitors start pouring through Santa's workshop, he becomes bitter toward the crowds and the Christmas spirit.  He tries to grin and bear it, but occasionally takes out his frustrations on the children and parents.  When yet another Santa enters the workshop, he finds this Santa is different from the others.  He actually seems to care about and love the children who come to see him.  This startles our hero into an uncharacteristic moment of goodwill, just before his employment runs out.

"The Santaland Diaries" is directed by Tony Daniel, and will be presented December 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 in the Black Box theatre space. Shows are Fridays at 10:30 pm., Saturdays at 6 and 10:30 pm; and Sundays at 6 pm.

In conjunction with our holiday productions, NCTC is collecting canned goods for the Coweta County Food Pantry. We encourage our patrons to bring in a few cans of food and drop them off in our lobby - and as an added incentive, each person who donates a can of food will receive a free hot chocolate at our concessions area.
