William Blake Sings Accoustic Sets at Sidewalk Cafe, 11/21 & 28

Blues/jazz singer William Blake will kick off the new "Landmark Wednesdays" series of concerts at the historic SideWalk Café in the East Village on November 21 and 28. Blake, along with Randy Napoleon on guitar, Mike Karn on bass and Danny Young on percussion, will perform sets at 8 and 10 pm.

Blake will present an acoustic set of his favorite pop and jazz standards by artists like Michael Jackson, Sting, Bob Dylan, Amy Winehouse, Joni Mitchell and Ann Hampton Callaway. He plans to dedicate these performances at the SideWalk in loving memory of his friend and mentor, Buddy Shanahan.

"A blues and soul belter of uncommon skill," according to The Wall Street Journal, Blake has played such notable NYC venues as Birdland, Feinstein's At The Regency, Don't Tell Mama, The Metropolitan Room, and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and Rose Hall at Lincoln Center. Last year, he released an album with Cavern Records, Live From New York City, which was recorded at Birdland.

The Landmark Wednesdays series, curated by Jim Caruso, who has hosted Jim Caruso's Cast Party at Birdland since 2002, is a new addition to SideWalk Café's weekly roster of live entertainment. The series will present established blues and jazz artists in SideWalk's intimate performance space, which traditionally has been one of the city's most supportive incubators for emerging talent.

In addition to live entertainment, the East Village stalwart that has anchored the corner of Avenue A and 6th since 1985 is known for its tasty, modestly priced food – particularly its signature burgers – and a thriving bar culture.
