WOYZECK from Adult Film To Be Inaugural Production at Modern Sweater
Blue Man Veteran Randall Jaynes and Ryan Czerwonko to work with Seth Bockley on Georg Büchner’s classic at a new performance venue in Ridgewood.
Adult Film, the Brooklyn-based artist collective, will be continuing their ongoing collaboration with the texts of the late John Christopher Jones (Awakenings, Moonstruck), the storied American film, television, and stage actor, on their summer production of Woyzeck.
Coming this July, directed by Seth Bockley (2666, Gilgamesh) and utilizing the talents of the Adult Film acting company, Woyzeck will be the inaugural production at a new performance venue, Modern Sweater, a former sweater factory in the heart of the independent arts capital of New York, Ridgewood. Joining the Adult Film company members is Randall Jaynes, who served as a Blue Man and the Senior Artistic Director with Blue Man Group for over two decades.
Bockley specializes in literary adaptation and design-driven work, notably adapting Roberto Bolaño's 2666 with Robert Falls at Goodman Theatre, amongst many other national and international projects. Emphasizing site-specific exploration, Adult Film's Woyzeck is a portrait of class conflict and madness, presented as a horror story through a modern humanist lens. Not quite a musical and not quite a play, the ensemble will bring some of Büchner's lyrics to life, drawing inspiration ranging from German folk music to 90's indie punk.
Woyzeck opens on July 15 and runs through August 8, with shows starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets ($30) are available for purchase here. Modern Sweater is located at 4-78 Onderdonk Ave., Queens, NY 11385.
Adult Film is a New York City Theatre Company, film studio, and artistic training center founded by Ryan Czerwonko in 2022. It is a peer-led class company that follows the curiosity of what it means to be an American actor. Adult Film is dedicated to collapsing the boundaries of theatre and film with a focus on acting itself, developing actors as writers and directors, and giving writers and directors a deeper understanding of actors. The growing community is centered around creating work about mess, ambiguity, the dark side, bad behavior, creativity, possibility...the human condition.
The cast includes Ryan Czerwonko, Randall Jaynes, Madeline Bernhard, Megan Metrikin, Taylor Petracek, Trevor Clarkson, Stephee Bonifacio, AJ Molder, and Hannah Hale (at select performances).
The creative team for Woyzeck includes Debbie Saivetz (Assistant Director), Siena Callan (Stage Manager), and Josh Barilla (Production Design).
