DCINY presents the US premiere of Sir Karl Jenkins' newest work, Symphonic Adiemus, a re-orchestration of his acclaimed composition Adiemus. Jenkins' new vocal score contains 12 numbers from the Adiemus series set in dynamic new scorings for an extended orchestra of over 100 musicians, including more than 20 layers of classical and world percussion and a choir of over 275 vocalists. Maestro Jonathan Griffith leads the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International in a celebration of Jenkins' 75th birthday. The concert will also include Stabat Mater by the composer-in-residence. Twenty choirs from around the world will participate in the performance. Iraqi singer Baidar Al Basri will join as the featured soloist.

The Music Of Sir Karl Jenkins: A 75th Birthday Celebration will take place on Monday, January 21, 2019, 7 PM, at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, Carnegie Hall. For tickets and information, visit DCINY. Tickets start at $20.

Since it was first heard in 1995, Adiemus has captured the imagination of music lovers worldwide thanks to its unique combination of classical principles with the flavors of world music. Symphonic Adiemus brings together some of the most iconic moments from the Adiemus series, including numbers from the first three albums - Songs of Sanctuary, Cantata Mundi, and Dances of Time. The new, enriched sound transforms the works from female vocalists and ensemble to full choir and orchestra for the first time. "When Adiemus first appeared with its unique blend of the classical and world music, with my invented language for lyrics, I have been inundated with requests, from choirs around the world, for an Adiemus that, for the first time, includes male voices as well as female. The idea of re-orchestrating a selection from the past led me to a new concept of increasing the forces across the board, making the whole sound massive and symphonic," says Jenkins.

Over 20 years ago, Sir Karl Jenkins changed the way classical music was perceived as Adiemus - Songs of Sanctuary broke the chart music rulebooks. It caused a huge stir as the album was not considered eligible for the classical charts, despite its huge popularity among classical fans - selling a million copies worldwide in its first year. The album went on to achieve 17 Gold and 2 Platinum discs.

Originally from the Gower peninsula of Swansea, Sir Karl Jenkins has been decorated with a considerable range of awards for his services to music, including an OBE, a CBE, and a knighthood. There are over 250 performances per year of his work in more than 20 countries. He released Still with the Music: My Autobiography in 2015.

A successful jazz and jazz-rock musician, playing baritone and soprano saxophones, keyboards, and the oboe, Jenkins performed at Ronnie Scott's world-famous jazz club in London, was a member of jazz composer Graham Collier's group, later co-founded the jazz-rock outfit Nucleus, and in 1972 joined the progressive rock band Soft Machine.

After Soft Machine, Jenkins moved into composing and conducting music for advertising. After his stint in advertising, Jenkins' return to the music mainstream was launched with the success of the Adiemus project in 1995. The title track of Adiemus was used prior to the album's release in a Delta Air Lines TV commercial.

In 2004, Karl Jenkins entered Classic FM's Hall of Fame Top 300 chart at No.8, the highest position for a living composer, and since has maintained this position as the highest placed living composer as well as being recognized in 2006 as the fourth most popular British composer.
