Transport Group, the winner of a special 2007 Drama Desk Award and a 2007 Obie Award, has announced that the company's 2007-2008 season will include two world premiere musicals: Crossing Brooklyn with music by Jenny Giering and book and lyrics by Laura Harrington, and Marcy in the Galaxy with music and lyrics by Nancy Shayne and book by "Sex and the City" producer/writer/director Michael Patrick King and Shayne.  Artistic Director Jack Cummings III will direct both shows, which will play the Connelly Theatre at 220 East 4th Street, between Avenues A and B.

"A modern musical that deals with the emotional aftermath of September 11 in New York, Crossing Brooklyn tells the story of Des and AJ, a young, idealistic couple, both public school teachers bent on changing the world one kid at a time," describe press notes, "Life is full of promise and endless possibility until Des begins to unravel under the weight of her fears, ignited from that fateful September day.  Splitting apart from the pressure, they struggle to find their way back to each other.  The lessons they learn, through the children they meet, change them forever."

Crossing Brooklyn begins previews Friday, October 19; open Sunday, October 28; and run through Sunday, November 18.

"Marcy in the Galaxy is a musical glimpse at what happens to a woman whose dream of being a New York artist takes longer to come true than she had planned.  At mid-life, Marcy finds herself alone in the Galaxy Diner (out of money and almost out of hope) in this humorous and poignant self-examination that explores dreams, disappointment, family, first love, and delicious diner desserts," describe press notes.

Marcy in the Galaxy begins previews Friday, March 28, 2008, open Sunday, April 6, 2008, and run through Sunday, April 27, 2008.
