Currently starring on Broadway as "The Wizard" in WICKED, Peter Scolari tonight won his first ever Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series Guest Actor, for playing Lena Dunham's dad on HBO's hit series GIRLS. And he wasn't even in contention on Emmy nomination day.

Scolari, who won over Larry David, Tracy Morgan, Martin Mull, Bradley Whitford and Bob Newhart was a late entry into the category, having been added when Peter MacNicol was disqualified for VEEP (having appeared in too many episodes).

Scolari has starred on and off-Broadway in productions such as Lucky Guy, Hairspray, Sly Fox, Magic Bird, Bronx Bombers, Out of This World, Ziegfeld Follies of 1936, and A.R. Gurney's Family Furniture.

His regional work includes: Inspecting Carol, Fox on the Fairway, and The Foreigner (Best Actor, Berkshire Theater Festival). Peter has also appeared on-screen in "Newhart" (VQT Emmy Award Three Time Emmy Nominee), "Girls" (Nat'l Film Critic's Award Nomination), "Gotham," "Bosom Buddies," "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," "The West Wing," "E.R.," "Family Ties," "White Collar," "Ally McBeal," "Stop the World, I Want to Get Off," "That Thing You Do," Polar Express, Suburban Girl, Camp Nowhere, The Ryan White Story, and appear on ABC's Madoff.
