The Lounge at Dixon Place is now open for business and is celebrating their upcoming grand opening with free music nights and a contest to create "The Dixon" house cocktail. The Lounge is open nightly to the public as well as for pre- and post- theater patrons who are attending performances in the main theater. A nightly Happy Hour features special beer, wine, and well drink prices and a specialty bartender's choice cocktail each night. The Lounge Happy Hour is from 6-7PM Monday-Friday.

At the official grand opening on Thursday, April 8th, the winner of the "The Dixon" cocktail contest will be announced. The winner will receive a party for 10 friends in the Lounge and a one year Season Pass Membership to Dixon Place. Details on the cocktail contest are on www.dixonplace.org. Performing at the grand opening will be Amour Obscur, a three piece lounge band singing about the darker side of love, www.amourobscur.com.

The cozy custom-designed lounge features recycled wood on the walls (from the original floorboards when the space was a light fixture factory), custom stained-glassed foyer artwork by Joseph Cavalieri, antique Persian rugs, and a custom-designed bar by Michael Howett, a Dixon Place board member and former owner of Marion's Restaurant. Rotating artwork by neighborhood artists is planned to hang on the Lounge walls. The bar now seats up to 50 people (100 standing) and contains a built-in tech booth for custom light and sound for music, performance, and community events.

All proceeds from bar sales directly sustain the Dixon Place mission which supports artists developing new works of performance including theater, dance, music, and literature, as well as the costs of maintaining the newly opened non-profit theater. Founded in 1986, the new Dixon Place opened in January 2009 and received overwhelming community support in being granted a full liquor license based on their contribution to the arts and the local community. The Municipal Art Society namEd Dixon Place as "A Place That Matters" in August 2009.

CREATE ‘THE DIXON' COCKTAIL CONTEST!

Dixon Place needs a signature cocktail and we want you to help us! The rules are:

We've got a classic downtown vibe and appeal to an audience that's looking for something different to do. Put all that in an original recipe and email it to us. The winner will receive: a one year Season Pass Membership to Dixon Place ($500 value!)* • Drink tickets when you attend future Dixon Place performances and • A luxurious Dixon Place t-shirt! See full contest rules at www.dixonplace.org.

FREE MUSIC NIGHTS

Most music in The Lounge begins at 7PM and there is no cover charge and no minimum drink purchase. The exact artist roster will be rotating and available on www.dixonplace.org.

The music schedule includes a popular ‘Circuit Bending' on Wednesday nights that has attracted a crowd that creates music on electronic toys, gadgets, and homemade devices. HISTORY
Dixon Place, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1986 to provide a space for literary and performing artists to create and develop new works in front of a live audience. Their mission supports and nurtures the development of diverse emerging and established artists and their new works. After 23 years of presenting artists in her East Village living room, founder Ellie Covan built a new, permanent theater on Chrystie Street which opened in 2009. The plan to support artists and the new facility included a bar and lounge where the proceeds would support the Dixon Place mission. The Lounge at Dixon Place is now open and all proceeds from the lounge sustain our mission in supporting artists and their new works!
