The Broadway Workshop Presents The Children’s Musical Theater Festival

The Broadway Workshop, in association with Project Broadway, will present the premiere season of the Children's Musical Theater Festival this weekend in New York City.

The Children's Musical Theater Festival (CMFT) provides up-and-coming theater writers with the opportunity, space and resources to develop and showcase new family-friendly musicals. CMFT nurtures and educates aspiring young actors who are selected to participate in the weeklong educational program, culminating in a performance of the selected original works. This year's Festival will be held July 23-24.

The 2011 festival shows are:

MUSICVILLE by Betina Hershey & Denver Casado of New York City. MUSICVILLE is an original musical that follows Maiden Melody and Radical Rhythm on their quest to save the world from the Sorcerer of Silence. MUSICVILLE be performed by students ages 10-12. MUSICVILLE performs July 23rd at 3PM and July 24th at 1PM

Like You Like It: The Musical (Cool-4-School Edition) by Daniel S. Acquisto & Sammy Buck of New York City. LIke You Like It: The Musical (Cool-4-School Edition) is a 1980's High School retelling of Shakespeare's As You Like It. This is an all new version of Acquistos & Bucks Like You Like It is specifically reworked for high school aged performers. Like You Like It (Cool-4-Scool Edition) will be performed by students ages 13-17. Like You Like It performs July 23rd at 8PM and July 24th at 6PM

The Broadway Workshop, now in its 5th year, gives young performers of all skill levels the opportunity to explore their creativity and perfect their craft in acting, singing and dance. Programs are taught by working professionals, from Broadway stars to casting agents to top theater experts. Through theatrical workshops, industry showcases, summer camps, private and small group trainings and full-scale productions, participants gain experience in all areas of the theater while learning necessary career skills in a supportive, positive and most of all FUN environment!

Project Broadway is a 501c3 non-profit organization (pending), created by The Broadway Workshop, to provide enriching educational experiences and scholarship opportunities for children and young adults in the theater arts. It provides unique experiences that develop important life skills, encourages self-expression, inspires personal exploration and motivates authentic development for students of all ages.
