2 FEBRUARY: With the Friday Nights series selling out and less than one week until closure, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier will be open until midnight on Saturday 7 February and 10pm on Sunday 8 February with a series of after-hours experiences and performances before the exhibition departs for Paris.
With crepès, charcuterie, champagne and beats by Chicks on Speed's DJ Alex Murray-Leslie (in a special solo set) Jean Paul Gaultier Until Midnight is an after-hours viewing experience from 6pm to midnight on Saturday 7 February.
On closing night, Sunday 8 February, the exhibition will be open from 6pm-10pm with gourmet food, drinks and entertainment.
The exhibition will also be open 6pm-10pm on the closing night of The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier, Sunday 8 February.
Students will also be able to enjoy after-hours access to The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier and the humorous retrospective David Shrigley: Life and Life Drawing on Student Night on Wednesday 4 February from 6pm-9pm. Pop up talks will delve into the inspirations behind the artworks and students can make their own drawing of Shrigley's Life Model 2012. An Auslan tour will also run at 6.30pm and the pop-up 1denity installation will ask students to consider who they really are.
Tony Ellwood, Director, NGV, said, 'We have been thrilled to host such a popular exhibition, and to attract art, design and fashion lovers. We are bidding adieu to the exhibition next week, but we are keeping the doors open late so that even more people can enjoy it before it travels to Paris.'
Throughout the final weekend pop up talks from guest speakers will also provide an insight into the designs, context and significance of Gaultier's work:

Tickets have almost sold out for the final Friday Nights at Jean Paul Gaultier program on Friday 6 February. The finale to the popular series features fashion/art/music/multimedia ensemble Chicks on Speed (Australian Alex Murray-Leslie and American Melissa Logan) who will bring the house down with their tongue-in-cheek electro-pop. The Europe-based group have a wide range of collaborators, from Julian Assange and Yoko Ono, to Peaches and Jean Paul Gaultier's contemporary Karl Lagerfeld. A limited number of tickets are available at the door.
The Asia-Pacific exclusive exhibition features more than 140 elaborate garments from the first dress created in 1971 and the launch of his first prêt-à-porter collection in 1976, to his most recent haute couture collections. This spectacular overview of Gaultier's extensive oeuvre also includes exclusive material not exhibited in previous venues of the tour, such as pieces from his recent haute couture, ready-to-wear collections and pieces created for Australian muses such as Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman, Andreja Pejic and Gemma Ward.
The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk is on display at the National Gallery of Victoria until 8 February 2015. Admission fees apply.
