Sunfish, the musical by the award-winning songwriting team of Michael Cooper and Hyeyoung Kim, will be featured as part of the Broadway's Future Songwriters Series at the Bruno Walter Auditorium, Lincoln Center in Manhattan, on Monday, May 20th at 6 pm. Songs from Sunfish will be sung by a cast soon to be announced. The evening is produced and directed by John Zindarsic. The performance is presented by Arts and Artists at St. Pauls, and is free and open to the public.

Heyoung Kim (music) and Michael Cooper (lyrics) are seen as one of the most exciting up-and-coming New York-based songwriting teams. They are winners of the prestigious Jonathan Larson Award, Daryl Roth Award, TRU Daniel Marshall Multicultural Award and are Mac Award-nominated. Kim is the composer of Cafe-In (Caffeine) currently running in Tokyo, Japan at Amuse Musical Theatre. Cooper penned additional lyrics for the Broadway-bound It Shoulda Been You (director, David Hyde Pierce, starring Tyne Daly). Kim and Cooper also contributed material for Museum Pieces, The Dome, and Rites of Passage produced by Prospect Theatre Company.

Sunfish is based on the Korean folk tale, "Sim-chung," which follows the journey of a devoted daughter trying to help her blind father regain his eyesight-and the incredible lengths she is willing to go for love.

Sunfish received its world premiere at the Stoneham Theatre outside of Boston. It was voted Best Musical, Broadwayworld Awards. It was presented at the NAMT Festival, the TRU Musical Series, and the ASCAP Workshop with Stephen Schwartz. A Korean- translation will be produced outside of Seoul, Korea later this summer.
