Sure, it feels great to save some time, but the cons of getting caught cheating don’t outweigh the pros.
There is no doubt that we live in an AI world. Especially at the end of the year, when senioritis hits, it would be so much easier to just use ChatGPT to finish your homework. I get it - it would save you a lot of time and stress. But let’s think about it for a second: the consequences of relying too much on AI definitely outweigh the little bit of time you save.
Lately, I've been grappling with that inevitable senior feeling of procrastination, and I can’t help but feel a bit frustrated since I used to be so motivated to get my work done right away. I feel like nothing in high school matters right now because I’m going to school for theatre in four months. It seems so easy to get lost in distractions, allowing time to slip away without achieving what I set out to do. It took me a week of having to send one simple email to my academic counselor that had been on my to-do list, which in the end only took ten minutes. Busy work assignments feel so useless, but in reality, when I sit down and focus, they never are as grueling or time-consuming as I thought.
However, as someone who is creative, I have learned that taking the easy way out won’t help me in the long run. Sure, it’s enticing to lean on AI when you’re feeling worn out, lazy, or overwhelmed, but trust me, it’s not worth the potential fallout. If you get too comfortable depending on AI, you might start becoming lazy in your thinking. And AI doesn’t always get it right.
In fields like theatre, where honesty and emotion are the key to success, relying on AI can make your work come off as fake and lifeless. Authenticity is key. Our unique ideas, imperfections, and originality are what really make us stand out. If you let AI take the reins, everyone’s work starts to blend together and sound the same.
In the end, even though it’s tempting to let AI do the heavy lifting, I have to remember why I’m doing this in the first place. Sure, it feels great to save some time, but the cons of getting caught cheating don’t outweigh the pros.
