Student Blog: A Look at Fine Arts at a Christian University
Don't Worry, We're All Okay Here :)
As you may or may not know, I'm a sophomore at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis.
Yes, you heard that right: Baptist?
I view this institution as a fairly welcoming one. I know all types of people who go here, and they're all welcomed with open arms.
Well, that might be because I'm in my university's Chorale, a not-so-select choir that brings together a bunch of dorks to sing together. If any of you are reading this, by the way, I love ya. :)
I know what you're thinking now, that all we sing is stuff about God and Jesus. While that is definitely in there, it's not all we do.
We just had our fall concert on October 1st, which was just over a week ago now, and most of our lit centered around the bicentennial of the state of Missouri, as the state was established in 1821.
One of our songs was a shape-note song called Idumea, and that doesn't really mention God directly.
What I'm saying is that you should get rid of your pre-conceived ideas of what a Christian university looks like, and how their choral departments run.
Not everything is as it seems.
