The news reported here on BroadwayWorld.com on July 6th has proved true as word is out this morning that Spamalot is indeed bound for Las Vegas. The show will play at the Wynn Las Vegas resort in 2007 at a custom built venue, reportedly called the 'Spamalot Experience and Grail Theater.'

Unlike
Avenue Q, Spamalot's Vegas production will not take place instead of a tour, but it will affect it. As per the agreement with Wynn, the show will skip California, Arizona, and Nevada. Also, like many other shows which head to Vegas, the show will be trimmed by 30 minutes.

"Wynn Las Vegas is a perfect fit for our show," said Bill Haber representing the Broadway producers of Monty Python's SPAMALOT, and continued, "We are thrilled with our collaboration with showman extraordinaire, Steve Wynn. Steve saw immediately that Mike Nichols, Eric Idle and their team, had created a timeless entertainment in Monty Python's SPAMALOT, that will draw audiences of all ages and backgrounds to the smartest new address on the Las Vegas Strip."

The irreverent musical blockbuster, which is based upon the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, opened at the Shubert on March 17th. In addition to the Best Musical Tony, Spamalot picked up the Best Director of a Musical Tony for Mike Nichols and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Sara Ramirez. In addition, it won the 2005 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Musical. The show's score is by Eric Idle and John Du Prez with a book by Idle, and in addition to Ramirez, it features Tim Curry, Hank Azaria, Christopher Sieber, Michael McGrath, Christian Borle and others as its loopy knights.

The Decca Broadway original cast recording of Monty Python's Spamalot has been in the Billboard Top 200 charts for the past seven weeks and is the fasting selling Broadway cast album since Rent.
