Latifah, according to reports, is set to play the mother of two teens who is put in charge of the Pacashau Gospel Choir after the death of its choir director. Parton will appear as the choir director's widow who hopes to take over her late husband's job.

Todd Graff, whose credits include "Camp" and "Bandslam" will write and direct the film.

Parton wrote the score for the musical 9 TO 5, which played Broadway in 2009 and will begin a national tour next month. She also co-starred in the film version of "9 to 5" as well as "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."

Latifah received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Matron Mama Morton in "Chicago." She also appeared in the film version of the musical "Hairspray." Her films credits include "Last Holiday" and "Bringing Down the House."
