SPIN CYCLE: THE LESBIAN LAUNDRETTE PLAY to Make Edinburgh Fringe Debut

Spin Cycle: THE LESBIAN LAUNDRETTE PLAY will make its Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut following previous productions in London, Oxford, and New Hampshire.

Set in a laundrette, the two-hander follows two former lovers who unexpectedly encounter one another again. As they reconnect, long-buried memories and unresolved questions resurface, prompting a reconsideration of their shared past and the choices that shaped their lives.

Blending absurdist comedy with drama, the play explores themes of love, memory, class, and Irish identity. Set against the backdrop of a working laundrette, the story unfolds in a liminal space where past and present coexist, allowing the characters to revisit moments they thought had been left behind.

The production is the recipient of Off West End's 2026 OffFest Award and is produced by Berserk Theatre, founded by queer American-Irish artist Zofia Zerphy and performer Rhiannon Bell.

Zerphy's previous credits include How to Urn a Living and Girl Kisser, while Bell has appeared in Hope Street and Joe Carstairs.

Direction is by Bethan Rose, whose credits include Swash and Buckle and work with Waterfowl Collective. The production features an entirely queer creative team.

“As a first-time theatrical director, working with an entirely queer team is such a joy,” said Rose. “I find there is a complicit sense of voyeurism in watching this play—you feel like a fly on the wall of the launderette, keen to spy on Kitt and Noel. This play echoes the truth of so many relationships, revealing obstacles, love and breaking points that we are all familiar with in our own lives, and making this absurdist play resonate with anyone who has been in a complicated relationship.”

Through humor, memory, and intimate storytelling, Spin Cycle: THE LESBIAN LAUNDRETTE PLAY examines how relationships evolve over time and how people carry the past with them, even when they believe they have moved on.
