SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE, WE LIVE IN CAIRO and ZM Selected as New Musicals for 2015 National Theater Music Conference

Selected from almost 300 submissions, the three new musicals that will be developed at the 2015 National Theater Music Conference have been anounced. The conference will hold public staged readings at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center June 28-29 and July 2 and 4.

Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time. Ripped from Optometry School and thrown into the Battle of the Bulge, he meets soldiers as alien to him as the inhabitants of the distant planet Tralfamadore, where he finds himself installed in the Earthling wing of their zoo. Bounced back and forth from childhood to old age, from WWII POW camps to marriage and family back home, he struggles to find a way to fight the past, live fully in the present, and find hope for his planet's future. Based on the classic novel by Kurt Vonnegut, which was inspired by his own experiences during World War II as filtered through his quirky humor and theatrical, other?worldly imagination.

Cairo, 2011. A group of students meet in a small flat above Tahrir Square. This is the beginning of Egypt's greatest revolution. We Live in Cairo, a new musical by Patrick and Daniel Lazour, follows six revolutionaries who spoke for their people and risked their lives for a better future.

The National Music Theater Conference has developed nearly 120 new musicals including Nine, Avenue Q, Violet and In the Heights.

The mission of the National Music Theater Conference (NMTC) is to provide a supportive and challenging environment in which emerging and established creative artists can take huge risks in order to refine and illuminate their work's vision during its formative stages.
