Actor Kiefer Sutherland has recently spoken out about his interest in coming back to the stage.

German TV channel Sky quotes Sutherland as stating "I will go back on stage soon in the new Broadway version of the 1972 play "That Championship Season."

On October 18th Broadwayworld reported that Tony Award nominee Gregory Mosher is set to direct the upcoming Broadway revival of Jason Miller's That Championship Season. Rehearsals are set to begin in January of 2011.

THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON is a drama about four men who reunite with their high school basketball coach for a 20th anniversary celebration of their state championship basketball game.

Twenty years since their ultimate victory, the former players--now an incumbent Mayor, a junior high school principal, a rich playboy entrepreneur and an alcoholic writer-- still rely on their coach for pep talks and guidance. During what may be their last reunion, secrets are revealed which could shatter their lives forever.

The first production of CHAMPIONSHIP was developed at The Public Theater and moved to Broadway thereafter in 1972. That production starred Charles Durning, Paul Sorvino, Richard A. Dysart, Walter McGinn, and Michael McGuire.
