R.Evolución Latina & Pregones/PRTT Announce 2019 Beyond Workshop Series

R.Evolución Latina and Pregones/PRTT proudly announce the 2019 Beyond Workshop Series in partnership with the Raúl Juliá Training Unit culminating in Shakespeare's, The Tempest.

R.Evolución Latina (RL) is pleased to announce their 2nd year of partnering with Pregones/Puerto Rican Traveling Theater (PRTT). After last year's success of this artistic collaboration, the organizations return in 2019 with a new artistic endeavor.

The Beyond Workshop Series (BWS), is an interdisciplinary (acting, dance, music) workshop for pre-professional artists led by professional teaching artists from Broadway, Film and TV, in conjunction with the historic Ra l Juli Training Unit.

This year the program will focus on the text of William Shakespeare's The TEMPEST. The challenging language will be fused with the percussive music and rhythmic dance of latin cultures to share the comedy, drama, betrayal and magic of this story. The program will culminate with a performance developed by RL's creative team and supported by the PRTT's Raul Julia Training Unit to be presented at Pregones Theatre.

R.Evolución Latina artistic director and program leader, Luis Salgado, says I believe that last years Shakespearean Experience was a fantastic step forward in our mission to empower our community of Latin artists from all around the world. The Tempest is a new ambitious goal of evolution for RL in relationship to classical work done in our own dare to go beyond style. Artists are challenged, not only in the physical work, and the use of the Shakespearean language but also in connection to the social and political realities of today. Prospero (the protagonist) represents those in society who try to trick us into the eye of the storm, our work represents how we take actions to survive and come out triumphant."

This is an opportunity to align the organizations' missions to empower communities, unite artists and to honor the legacy of Raul Julia and Miriam Col n who paved the way for latin artists today. Collaboration has been the key to the success of RL's mission.

Rosalba Rolón artistic director for Pregones/PRTT, says Our goal with the Raúl Juliá Training Unit is to provide performing arts training of a high caliber to individuals with limited or no access to such education. Partnership with R.Evolución Latina and BWS does just this: Together we build community with local and international participants, readying them to pursue careers in the arts with enhanced confidence.

Auditions for BWS will take place on Saturday April 27th, from 10am to 1pm. As it is an invited audition, interested parties are encouraged to apply at REvolucionLatina.org. The classes will take place from May 20th through May 31st, 9:30am to 4pm in Harlem.

RL will continue to bring artists from Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina and beyond, to continue to inspire young professionals and expose them to an overall artistic experience in NYC.
