RADIO 930: CHILDREN OF THE REVOLUTION Will Have Industry Reading 2/23

The new musical RADIO 930: CHILDREN OF THE REVOLUTION - How Rock & Roll Helped Bring Down the Berlin Wall, will have its second industry presentation (by invitation only) on Friday, February 23 at 3PM and 6PM at The American Theatre of Actors John Cullum Theater (314 West 54th Street).

Featuring a score of rock & roll classics and "deeper tracks" by Bob Dylan, T. Rex, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers and more, RADIO 930: CHILDREN OF THE REVOLUTION is conceived by Nancy Paris and Charles Yurick with a book by Josh Billig, and musical direction by Doug Katsaros.

RADIO 930 is inspired by true events. It's 1977 East Berlin, the Wall is ever present, and apprehension is palpable. Even the most ardent communists live in constant fear of being informed on by their neighbors. Bernhard Heidt, a bright young engineer in the Stasi secret police is tasked with preventing radio stations from playing Western rock 'n' roll, music that is verboten even in one's home. Bern, caught between love, rock & roll, and the Communist Party, must grapple to understand what it means to be truly heroic, what it means to be family, and what it means to be free.

Directed by David Ruttura (Associate Director: School of Rock, Resident Director: Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark), RADIO 930 features three-time Tony Award nominee Dee Hoty (Bright Star, Gigi, Mama Mia, Footloose), Stephen Lee Anderson (Bright Star, Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark, Richard III), Emily Padgett (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bright Star, Side Show), Robert Lenzi (Tuck Everlasting, Dog Fight, South Pacific), Theo Stockman (American Psycho, American Idiot, Hair), Mimi Ryder (Matilda the Musical), Drama Desk Nominee Daniel Everidge (Falling, "The Greatest Showman") and Emily Gardner Hall (Stockholm).

"These are the songs, re-envisioned for the stage, that opened minds and inspired millions behind the Iron Curtain," say Nancy Paris and Charles Yurick, who conceived the musical. "Imagine being in your 20s, growing up with a constant diet of folk songs, marches, and homogenized pop music, and then hearing Jimi Hendrix's guitar for the first time. The '70s were a decade of East/West tensions and tumultuous change, much like the political climate we face today. We believe that art and culture - including rock & roll music - will have a continuing impact in the 21st Century's global movement towards freedom and human rights."

RADIO 930: CHILDREN OF THE REVOLUTION is presented by Radio 930 Entertainment LLC, Mark Rubinsky, James Shayman, Margaret Nolin Selby, and Tony Castrigno.
