The Associated Press reports that R & B star R. Kelly is currently working on plans to bring his IFC TV series TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET to the Broadway stage. The series returns to IFC with brand new chapters this Friday, November 23, following a Thanksgiving Day marathon of previous episodes.

Created, written by and starring R. Kelly as multiple cast members, Trapped in the Closet is an ongoing saga featuring the characters of Sylvester, Rufus, Cathy, Tina, Roxanne, Randolph, Rosie the Nosy Neighbor, Reverend Moseley, Twan and Pimp Lucius. The cast of misfits are described as being "interconnected by sexual exploits, quarreling lovers and a mysterious package."

Kelly announced yesterday that he has received an offer to bring the cult phenomenon to the Great White Way and may even appear in some of the show's performances. While unveiling the latest chapters of the series to an audience at the Sunshine Theater yesterday, Kelly revealed, “To transform it into a Broadway version, that’s what I’m working on."

Referring to the "over-the-top" series which he often describes as an "alien", the singer shared, “I’m glad to be one of the astronauts to take this thing to the unknown.” and added, “I’m just having a lot of fun. I don’t have a job so I sit in the studio all day and think of stuff to do and this is just something stupid I’ve done that’s been successful for me. I’m having a lot of fun with it.”

While the latest installment of the series took five years to produce, Kelly assured the audience that the next chapters will be created in a much more efficient manner. "I want everybody to know I’ve got 85 chapters of ‘Trapped in the Closet’ waiting in the studio for y’all,” and hinted, “The chapters that are coming—the show, we call it—is going to exceed every chapter that you have ever seen.”
