You can now get a first look at photos of The Iphigeniamachine, now playing at the American Theatre of Actors. The experimental work, written by Mackenzie Robin Krestul and directed by Harrison Campbell, plays through this Sunday, May 17, at American Theatre of Actors.
This dissection of the classic Iphigenia at Aulis takes place in a technofeudal, post-apocalyptic ice age. There, amidst the unfamiliar rubble of her life, a nameless girl searches for her identity and freedom from her father’s war machine. After the traditions of Magda Romanska and Heiner Müller, THE IPHIGENIAMACHINE dismantles the original mythology to expose a perilous underbelly of atrocity, complacency, and glorified masculinity.
This production is the first workshop of the show, supported by Pratt Institute's Graduate Student Engagement Fund. It stars Quinn Andrews, Kaitlyn Rose Rabocse, Sam Hardy, Emily McManus, Travis Bergmann, Cadence Lamb, and Mackenzie Robin Krestul. The show also features a custom deer puppet, after the styles of the Bread and Puppet Theatre, designed and built by Annie McGowan and Emily McManus.
