Photo Flash: Throughline Theatre Presents PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE
Throughline Theatre Company begins ninth season with Picasso at the Lapin Agile, opening May 4 at Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre in downtown Pittsburgh. Light-hearted but thoughtful comedy kicks off this season's theme, "Make 'Em Laugh".
Pittsburgh, PA, April 2018-In a bar in Paris, in 1904, Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso have a chance encounter shortly before both will come to help redefine the 20th century. A year later, Einstein will publish his special theory of relativity and two years after that, Picasso will paint Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. The two discuss genius, talent, and love with a number of other characters, including one very special and mysterious (and time-traveling) "Visitor."
Steve Martin's first full-length play, Picasso at the Lapin Agile was originally produced in 1993 at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago. It went on to successful productions in Los Angeles and New York City, winning the Outer Critics Circle Award for the Best Off Broadway Play in the latter in 1996. Daniel Freeman directs Throughline's production of the award-winning play, which will feature Jenine Peirce, Patrick Conner, Lee Lytle, Steve Gottschalk, Hannah Brizzi, Nico Bernstein, Chris Duvall, Stephen Ray, Sarah McPartland, and Samantha Story-Camp.
Picasso at the Lapin Agile opens Friday, May 4 and runs through Saturday, May 12. Thursday and Friday performances start at 8:00 p.m., Saturday performances at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 general admission or $15.00 for students, artists, and seniors.
