Parthenia Viol Consort to Present Italia Mia Season Opening Concet At Manhattan's Church Of St. Luke In The Fields

Parthenia, New York's premiere viol consort, will present Italia Mia, their season opening concert on Thursday, November 11 @ 7:30 PM at The Church of St. Luke in the Fields, 487 Hudson Street in Manhattan and online. The program, the first of Parthenia's 2021-22 NYC Concert Series, will also be webcast.

Parthenia will perform extraordinary Venetian repertoire for viols and voice from the Renaissance, with guest soprano Sherezade Panthaki in a program of canzonas, dances, madrigals, and motets by composers of the 16th and 17th centuries, including Monteverdi, Gabrieli, Willaert and Gesualdo.

The viola da gamba arrived in Italy in the late 15th century, and Venice was where it had its greatest flourishing. In this prosperous international setting ruled by cultivated patrons of the arts, an extraordinary synergy arose among composers, musicians, instrument builders, and publishers that led to some of the most beautiful music of the Renaissance.

In person performance tickets are $25 and webcast tickets are $10. Both can be ordered at https://parthenia.org/shop/italia-mia-concert-november-11-2021-730pm/. All in-person concert-goers will also receive a link to view the archived webcast performance.

Please note that proof of vaccination and masks will be required for admission to this concert.

Soprano Sherezade Panthaki's international success in music of the Baroque and beyond has been fueled by superbly honed musicianship; "astonishing coloratura with radiant top notes" (Calgary Herald); "a full, luxuriously toned upper range" (The Los Angeles Times), and passionately informed interpretations, "mining deep emotion from the subtle shaping of the lines" (The New York Times).
