Parks and Empire BlueCross BlueShield Launch WALK NYC

Anyone can exercise - it's as easy as a walk in the park! Today, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe joined Mark Wagar, President and CEO of Empire BlueCross BlueShield, and Thomas Farley, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, to kick off the "Summer of Health" with WALK NYC. WALK NYC is a new, free program that encourages New Yorkers of all ages to get fit while enjoying the outdoors. With funding provided by Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Parks has hired trained walking instructors who will keep participants active, exercising and having fun.

"Bring your strollers, your pets and your pedometers to take the first step on the road to fitness," said Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe. "New York is famous for being a walking city, and with WALK NYC the only thing you need to get in shape is a comfortable pair of shoes. Parks is very grateful for the support that Empire BlueCross BlueShield has shown in supporting this program, and giving New Yorkers every opportunity to get some exercise and fresh air in their local parks."
