PROJECT ANDROMEDA to Make World Premiere With Citadel Theatre's Young Company
Written by Mac Brock and directed by Brett Dahl, the show runs in the Citadel's Rice Theatre in Edmonton.
The Citadel Theatre's Young Company will present the world premiere of Project Andromeda, written by local playwright Mac Brock, running May 22 - 24, 2026, in the Citadel's Rice Theatre.
The story follows Andy “Andromeda” Martin searching the cosmos for answers about her mother's unexplained disappearance. Armed with only memories and her mother's radio transceiver, Andy must confront the unknown or risk losing her last connection to the past.
Directed by Brett Dahl, Project Andromeda is a larger-than-life ensemble piece about a quest for truth across boundless prairie skies. The play was commissioned specifically for the Citadel Theatre Young Company, and will feature performers from the Young Performing Company onstage, with technical and design support provided by students in the Young Production Company. The students began their training at the Citadel in September 2025, and Project Andromeda highlights the skills they have been developing throughout the season.
“Mac has been developing the script for four years, including doing workshop readings with past Young Company cohorts, so we're stoked to see the fully realized production coming to life,” says the Citadel's Director of Education & Outreach, Luc Tellier.
Tellier says that the Young Company production provides unique collaboration between emerging and professional Edmonton artists. “The artists we've brought onto the show are amazing mentors for the students. They are setting the tone for how professional rehearsals are run, and the students are rising to the challenge beautifully.”
The Citadel Theatre's Young Company is an audition-based training and mentorship program for young artists aged 16 - 21 who are dedicated to furthering their craft. Young Company alumni are now in renowned acting and musical theatre training programs across North America.
