Ars Nova presents, as part of the Out Loud series, a FREE reading of: MARGIE & JOSEPHINE by Carly Mensch, directed by Jason Eagan.

MARGIE & JOSEPHINE

Meet Josephine, the wife of a lowly dressmaker on New York's Lower East Side, circa 1890. Meet Margie, a young woman who has just moved to New York, circa now. When Margie takes a job playing Josephine at the local heritage museum, past pervades present in this weird and comic tale of new beginnings and epic journeys.

Carly Mensch's plays include All Hail Hurricane Gordo (Humana 2008 in a co-production with the Cleveland Playhouse), Len, Asleep in Vinyl (Second Stage Theatre Uptown, dir. by Jackson Gay) and Oblivion (commissioned by Playwrights Horizons). In addition to Ars Nova, her work has been developed at the Kennedy Center, the Marin Theatre Company and the Actors Theater of Louisville. She is a founding member of Ars Nova's Play Group. She is currently working on a musical with Alex Timbers and the indie rock band Bishop Allen as well as on a screenplay for YARN films. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Juilliard School's Lila Acheson Wallace Playwriting Program.

Jason Eagan: As Artistic Director of Ars Nova, Jason has developed and produced hundreds of theater, music and comedy artists seeking to innovate live performance. Recent mainstage productions he has shepherded for Ars Nova include Peter Nachtreib's Boom and the world premieres of Jollyship the Whiz-Bang and At Least It's Pink. Favorite directing credits include: Brilliant Mistake: Broadway Sings Elvis Costello; Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Audios Pantalones; Ana Gasteyer's Let It Rip!; Gypsy, starring Andrea McArdle; and the award-winning San Francisco production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, starring Kevin Cahoon. Jason began his career as a Stage Manager for Los Angeles Opera and subsequently worked with multiple opera companies around the country, before coming to New York in 1997 to work on the Broadway production of The Lion King. He is a member of The Improbable Theatre Company.
