Mint Theater Company to Present PHYL and THE FANATICS in Upcoming Season

Mint Theater Company has revealed a new season exploring rarely spoken-of themes: sex, love, and the complexities of relationships. Featuring two plays, the season will include PHYL by Cicely Hamilton, directed by Britt Berke, and THE FANATICS by Miles Malleson, directed by Davis McCallum. The season will take place at Theatre Row.

PHYL follows Phyllis Chester, a governess trapped in a solitary existence, walled off from the life she craves—until a moment of lost temper leads her to risk everything.

Cicely Hamilton is the author of DIANA OF DOBSON’S, which Mint produced in 2001. Britt Berke will direct, with performances at Theatre Row beginning October 3, 2026.

THE FANATICS centers on John Freeman and his sister Gwen, both disillusioned by the Great War, as they attempt to forge lives based on radical new ideas about love, sex, and marriage while still living under their parents’ roof.

Miles Malleson, also the author of CONFLICT and Yours UNFAITHFULLY, brings insight, wit, and compassion to questions of intimacy and freedom. As Alexis Soloski wrote in The New York Times, “Both plays argue for Malleson as a playwright of insight, wit, and compassion. He is also a writer who takes sex seriously. And it never occurs to him to punish his characters for wanting it and having it. That gets my vote.”

Davis McCallum will direct, with performances beginning February 13, 2027.
