Mare Winningham Featured on WNYC 'Soundcheck' Today

Award nominee and two-time Emmy Award winner Mare Winningham, now making her New York stage debut in Atlantic Theater Company's world premiere musical 10 Million Miles, will appear live on WNYC Radio's "Soundcheck," today Monday, June 11th in the 2:00p half hour.  "Soundcheck," hosted by John Schaeffer, airs on WNYC Radio (92.9 FM) daily from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Now in previews at Atlantic for an opening on Thursday, June 14th, 10 Million Miles features music and lyrics by Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Patty Griffin ("Impossible Dream"), a book by Keith Bunin (The Credeaux Canvas) and direction by Tony Award-nominee Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening).

Winningham will also make her New York nightclub debut on Sunday, June 17th, 2007 at 9:30 p.m. blocks away from Atlantic at  Joe's Pub at the Public Theater.  "With a voice that has been compared to the smooth tones of Alison Kraus and the emotion of Emmylou Harris, Winningham is one of America's most highly regarded performing artists.  She has appeared on stage, screen, and in over sixty movies for television and has been honored with an Academy Award-nomination, two Emmy Awards, an Independent Spirit Award, a Golden Globe Award nomination, two Screen Actor's Guild nominations, and a Peabody Award for Excellence in Television," state press notes. 

Winningham rose to fame with her performance in the landmark coming of age film St. Elmo's Fire, and over the last twenty years the former "Brat packer" has built a fan base from years of diverse roles including her celebrated turn as a legendary folk singer in the film Georgia and her recent role on the hit series "Grey's Anatomy."  As a singer and musician, she has also toured across the country.  In her evening at Joe's Pub, she will perform an eclectic mix of traditional country bluegrass music as well as selections from her newly released third studio album "Refuge Rock Sublime", a recording of original Jewish country/folk songs with a unique take on traditional Jewish themes. Her other albums include "What Might Be" (1992) and "Lonesomers" (1998).

Mare Winningham's New York debut Joe's Pub concert is produced by Jayson Raitt.Tickets are $25 (plus a 2 drink minimum / $12 food minimum) per person at tables. 10 Million Miles is now in previews for a June 14th opening at Atlantic Theater Company at the Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues.  The show plays Tuesday through Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm & 8pm and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.  Tickets are $65.00 and available by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200 (www.ticketcentral.com).
