MY COMIC SHOP DOCUMENTARY to Play at Anthology Film Archives, 5/18
My Comic Shop DocumentARy, a film by Anthony Desiato will play Wednesday, May 18th 6:00PM at Anthology Film Archives 32 2nd Avenue @ 2nd Street.
In 1992, one man embarked upon a journey from lawyer to comic book retailer. It has been a journey filled with accomplishment and disappointment, friendship and heartbreak, and a dream that became a nightmare. My Comic Shop DocumentARy, a film by first-time director Anthony Desiato, is a humorous and heartfelt look at the community that calls Alternate Realities home...a community more colorful than even the pages of a comic book.
Anthony Desiato first fell in love with comic books at the age of 5 when his father read "The Death of Superman" to him. It's been a long love affair - or really bad habit, depending on your point of view - ever since, culminating this year in the release of his first film.
Desiato, made the movie, "My Comic Shop DocumentARy," pretty much single-handedly over the course of an intense four months while attending Pace Law School full time. "The documentary isn't so much about a group of comic book fans as it is about a group of people," Desiato explains. "They just so happen to hang out at a comic book shop. What it's really about is the community and the camaraderie at this store."
