MA's Shakespeare & Co. to Unveil New Arts Complex in '08
According to the New York Times, Shakespeare & Company - located in Lenox, MA - will expand into a multimillion dollar arts complex that will be unveiled in spring of 2008.
The venerable 30-year-old company, which previously bought 63 acres for $3.5 million and sold about half of it for a profit in 2005, will "transform part of a building on its 33-acre campus into a $5 million arts complex that will include a 150-seat theater, rehearsal spaces and costume and set design shops." The arts complex will be used by both Shakespeare & Company and by other theatre groups who will be able to rent space.
Also in the works is a planned version of the Elizabethan-era theatre the Rose Playhouse.
In early July, the theatre presents repertory productions of Moliere's Scapin, adapted by Bill Irwin and Mark O'Donnell, Joe Penhall's Blue/Orange, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Tom Stoppard's Rough Crossing.
