Lizards & Snakes: Alive! opens at American Museum of Natural History Central Park West at 79th Street Saturday, March 6, 2010

Back by popular demand with more than 60 live lizards and snakes from five continents, Lizards & Snakes: Alive!, on view through September 6, will introduce visitors to a diversity of legged and legless lizards, including snakes-a group known as squamates. Grounded in the evolutionary history of the group, Lizards & Snakes showcases live animals and some of their remarkable adaptations, including projectile tongues, deadly venom, amazing camouflage, and sometimes surprising modes of locomotion. Representing more than 20 species occurring in countries such as Australia, Cuba, Egypt, Guatemala, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico, Sudan, and the United States, the animals include the veiled chameleon and the Madagascan giant day and are shown in re-created habitats complete with ponds, tree limbs, rock ledges, and live plants.

ADMISSION: Admission to the exhibition is $24 for adults, $14 for children, and $18 for seniors and students. For tickets, the public should call 212-769-5200 or visit amnh.org.
