This summer, Northwestern University will celebrate Johnny Mercer and the Great American Songbook with the help of some of Broadway's best, including Andrew Lippa, Stephen Schwartz, Soshana Bean and more, in a week-long project that includes special events and showcases as part of the 2010 season subscription.

The events include:

SONGWRITERS SHOWCASE

Friday, August 6, 8 p.m.
Josephine Louis Theater, 20 Arts Circle Drive (directions)

For the fifth year, emerging songwriters from all over the country will treat audiences to an evening of original music, representing the worlds of pop, music theatre, hip hop, folk, Latin and country. A Festival favorite, this annual event is free to our All-Inclusive subscribers! Seating is limited to the first 300 All-Inclusive subscribers and reservations are required.

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH Stephen Schwartz

Saturday, August 7, 7 p.m.
Pick Staiger Concert Hall

Our 2010 All-Inclusive Subscribers are invited to join us for a complimentary private discussion with Stephen Schwartz prior to this year's A Celebration of Stephen Schwartz concert! Hosted by ASCAP Director of Musical Theatre Michael Kerker and AMTP Executive Director Dominic Missimi, Mr. Schwartz will share stories from his successful career on Broadway and beyond, as well as a very special song or two! Reservations are required for this exclusive event.

A perfect end to a perfect summer, this star-studded evening honors the legacy of Johnny Mercer by celebrating Tony Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippen, Godspell) for his mentorship of young songwriters. The evening will feature performances from Mr. Schwartz's landmark shows by Broadway star Shoshana Bean (Wicked), Tony-nominated composer/lyricist Craig Carnelia, Grammy Award-nominated composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa, Grammy Award-winning Nashville singer/songwriter Lari White and talented young songwriters from the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project. Mr. Schwartz will be on hand to share a few songs himself, and to honor the legacy of Johnny Mercer and the Great American Songbook - past, present and future!
