Composer, writer and performance artist Kate Douglas makes her debut at Joe's Pub on Friday, August 31st at 7:30 p.m. with an evening of original songs, poems and curiosities entitled Kate Douglas and the Imaginary MenageriE. Douglas, who can currently be seen in PUNCHDRUNK's Sleep No More, will perform her own original music and lyrics, supported by a sexy collection of singers, musicians and a deer named Lucy.
Produced by Lina Renzina and Rachel Sussman, the Imaginary Menagerie is part concert, part performance piece, and part David Lynch film. Presenting an assortment of her experimental compositions and writings, Douglas's jazz-inspired, piano-based soulful harmonies will surprise, excite, dazzle, and terrify listeners as they discover the young NYC-based composer's knack for haunting melodies.Kate Douglas is a 2012 graduate of the NYU Tisch Experimental Theatre Wing and has trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Carnegie Mellon University, Oxford University and NJPAC. She has collaborated with companies such as Red Dog Squadron and The Foundry Theatre and sung with artists including Lisa Sokolov and Todd Almond. Recently, Douglas served as the assistant to Mr. Almond on his new score for Sarah Ruhl's Melancholy Play at 13P. She was awarded the 2008 National Society of Arts and Letter's Lavinia Kohl Award for excellence in literature for her short play Treading Water, as well as the 2008 NY Young Playwrights Award.
