The American Theatre Wing and XM Satellite Radio will present an interview with award-winning director John Doyle on their weekly theatrical interview show, "Downstage Center," on XM's On Broadway (XM Channel 28). Doyle will appear as the special guest on Friday, November 24 at 6 p.m. The show will repeat on Saturday, November 25 at noon, Sunday, November 26 at 7 p.m., and Wednesday, November 29 at midnight.

"Doyle will talk about the development of his unique actor-musician approach to classic musicals, including the current production of Company and the recent Sweeney Todd; why he's not worried about being seen as a 'one-trick pony;' how he matches instruments to characters; why we won't see him directing West Side Story in his trademark style; and why he's feeling more pressure now than he did during his Broadway debut," as press notes state.

Doyle returns to Broadway as the director of Company after receiving a Tony Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk Award for Best Director of a Musical for his Broadway debut, Sweeney Todd. He has been artistic director of four prestigious UK regional theatres, where some 200 productions include musicals, new plays and the classics. His extensive work with actor-musicians includes productions of Candide on a UK tour, Carmen at the Royal Opera House, Into the Woods at the York Theatre Royal and Fiddler on the Roof at the Watermill Theatre, Newbury. He has numerous West End credits, including his own version of The Gondoliers and a critically acclaimed Mack and Mabel. Future productions include The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny for Los Angeles Opera, Barnum for the Old Globe Theatre and Lucia di Lammermoor for Scottish Opera, both in 2007.

Each new "Downstage Center" program is regularly broadcast at 6 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays at noon, Sundays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 12 a.m. (all times EST). Following the initial run on XM, each program is made available for free, on-demand, internationally as both streaming audio and podcast on ATW's Web site, www.americantheatrewing.org.  Visit www.xmradio.com for more on XM Satellite Radio.
