Jimmy Smits, last seen on Broadway at the Royal Theatre in 2003 portraying Juan Julian in ANNA IN THE TROPICS, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Nilo Cruz about a Cuban family bringing the cigar business to Florida, is now starring in the Emmy Award-winning Showtime television drama DEXTER about a serial-killing forensics expert who works for the Miami Metro Police Department.

A longtime star of film and television, Smits gained wide recognition for his portrayal of Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan in the films STAR WARS: EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES (2002) and STAR WARS: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH (2005).

Born in 1955 in Brooklyn, Smits' other television credits include Cane (2007), The West Wing (2004-2006), NYPD Blue (1994-1998 & 2004), L.A. Law (1986-1991) and Miami Vice (1984), among many others. His film credits also include Bless the Child (2000), Adventures in Wild California (2000), The Believers (1987) and Running Scared (1986).

On DEXTER, which stars Michael C. Hall in the leading role, Smits plays the role of the Miami Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado, adding powerful star quality to the popular series. Hall's Broadway credits include CABARET, CHICAGO and MR. MARMALADE.

DEXTER premiered on Showtime on October 1, 2006. Now in its third season, DEXTER airs on Sundays on Showtime. For more information, visit the official site.
