As Jean Paul Gaultier put it in his show notes, "This is an homage to all the pop stars of the Eighties who have influenced fashion and my fashion with their look. Any similarity with real events or characters is purely noncoincidental."

The theatrical show walked a fine line between homage and parody.  Models walked with Grace Jones' signature square flattop hair, Boy George-like floral-print jumpsuits, and cone bras speaking to Madonna's iconic 80's look.  The finale included men Vogue-ing in heels.

It was all fun and festive but makes one wonder when the designer will regain some of his fashion relevance?
