Jay Black to Headline Weekend of Comedy at Bucks County Playhouse

Nationally known comic Jay Black will headline a weekend of comedy at the historic Bucks County Playhouse, February 26-27 at 8 pm.

A very popular comedian on college campuses, Black has performed at over 700 campuses nationwide. Black is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2009 Campus Activities Magazine Comedian of the Year, both the 2013 and 2014 APCA College Comedian of the Year, and the 2013 all-around College Performer of the Year. He has opened for such illustrious comedian celebrities as Kevin Nealon, Christopher Titus, Greg Fitzsimmons, Bobcat Goldthwait, Emo Phillips, Pete Holmes, and Sinbad. He is also an accomplished screenwriter.

Comic Allan Goodwin will open for Black, who is scheduled to perform on February 26 and 27 at 8 pm. A top-notch performer in the industry, Goodwin was a finalist in the 2014 "World Series of Comedy."

This standup comedy weekend is rescheduled from late January, when it was cancelled on account of weather. This series is part of the Playhouse's commitment to offer year-round programming at the historic Bucks County venue. Throughout 2016, the Playhouse will offer music, dance and special cultural events programming in addition to its mainstage subscription programming, which begins in May. More details will be announced in the coming weeks. Patrons are advised to visit the Bucks County Playhouse website and social media pages for continuing updates.

Individual tickets in the orchestra section are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Cabaret tables, including table service from the Playhouse Riverview Café, are $35. To see both weekends of comedy, two-show packages can be purchased for $25 in the orchestra section and $60 at a Cabaret table.

Bucks County Playhouse, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, is the oldest and largest professional Equity performing arts center in Bucks County, and provides the finest theatrical entertainment for visitors and residents of New Hope, Doylestown, Lambertville and the Delaware Valley. Located between Philadelphia and New York, Bucks County Playhouse opened in 1939 in a converted 1790 gristmill after a group of community activists, led by Broadway orchestrator Don Walker and playwright Moss Hart, rallied to save the building. The Playhouse quickly became one of the country's most famous regional theaters, featuring a roster of American theatrical royalty including Helen Hayes, Kitty Carlisle, George S. Kaufman, Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Bert Lahr, Walter Matthau, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Alan Alda, Tyne Daly, Liza Minnelli and Audra McDonald and remained in continuous operation until December 2010. In 2012, the Playhouse re-opened thanks to the efforts of the Bridge Street Foundation, the nonprofit family foundation of Kevin and Sherri Daugherty, and Broadway producer Jed Bernstein.

Since its renovation, significant productions include Terrence McNally's "Mothers and Sons" starring Tyne Daly which moved to Broadway and was nominated for two Tony Awards; "Misery" by William Goldman based on the Stephen King novel now playing on Broadway, "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike", starring Marilu Henner and playwright Christopher Durang, and last summer's hit production of "Company" starring Justin Guarini, which the Wall Street Journal claimed "borders on the miraculous. The Playhouse is surely headed back into the spotlight."
