Guare, Parks and Son Take Part in 'Writers and The Public' Discussion, Feb. 2

Oskar Eustis, the new artistic director of The Public, will moderate a discussion with John Guare, Suzan-Lori Parks, and Diana Son. "Writers and The Public" is the fourth event of The Public TALKS, a year-long series presented as part of The Public's 50th Anniversary Celebration. It will be held on Thursday, February 2nd at 7:00 PM at the New School's Tishman Auditorium; the event is free for students.

"Two generations of Public Theater playwrights share their secrets about the play writing process, what it takes to develop an idea for the stage, and how they cope with the challenges posed by the current culture climate," state press notes. Guare's works include The House of Blue Leaves, Six Degrees of Separation and The Landscape of the Body, while Suzan-Lori Park won the Pulitzer Prize for Topdog/Underdog and Son has penned plays such as Satellites and Stop Kiss.
 
"The Public TALKS is a year-long series of cross-disciplinary dialogues and debates with Public Theater actors, writers, and directors, joined with journalists and cultural commentators that will explore different dimensions of the theater's dynamic history." Upcoming events include "The Public Goes to War" featuring a discussion with Jessica Hagedorn, Brett C. Leonard and David Rabe, moderated by Bill Goldstein (March 9th, 2006); as well as
The Dramatic Writer's Journey," including Kenneth Lonergan, Anton Dudley and Doug Wright, among others. (April 4th, 2006).
