Finger Lakes New Works Festival To Present Second Season
DAUGHTERS, LILIES: THE MUSICAL, and more will be staged at Kitchen Theatre Company in Ithaca, NY.
The Finger Lakes New Works Festival (FLNWF) will present their second season of shows.
The season begins with two fully staged musical productions of Daughters (Hijas): A New Musical by Saviana Stanescu, Julián Mesri, and Courtney Young Socher which is being co-produced with Walking on Water Productions, and Lilies: The Musical, adapted and directed by Gavin Mayer with music and lyrics by Eric Leigh. The fully realized musical productions are accompanied by a workshop sharing of a new musical called Flourish with the book and lyrics by Lauren Tazlitz and music by Danny Ursetti, as well as Stepping Into Her Shoes: excerpts from a one woman show written by and starring Kathleen Mulligan. There will also be a presentation of two films: Framing Ménerbes by Daniel Gwirtzman and In My Own Little Corner: The Film by Chrissie Whitehead.
Daughters will run June 4th-7th and 11th-14th and Lillies will run June 18th-21st and 25th-28th. Both performances will take place at Kitchen Theatre Company, 417 West MLK/State Street, Ithaca, NY, as part of their Kitchen Sink Series, a program that supports a diverse community of local artists and performing groups. Tickets can be purchased at the Kitchen Theatre's website or by calling (607) 272-0570.
Stepping Into Her Shoes will be presented on June 9th from 7:00-8:30pm in Ithaca College's Theatre. The Flourish workshop sharing will take place on June 13th at 3pm in Ithaca College's Clark Theatre, 953 Danby Road, Ithaca, NY. Tickets can be purchased at their respective Eventbrite websites.
In My Own Little Corner: The Film (June 10th from 7-9pm) and Framing Ménerbes (June 17th from 7-8:30pm) will be presented at the Park Auditorium, Roy H. Park School of Communications, Ithaca College, 953 Danby Rd., Ithaca, NY. Tickets can be purchased at their Eventbrite website.
Their season includes shows with themes about four generations of women shaping histories/her-stories; love, secrecy, and what it costs to live as your true self; treating plants as companions to help heal the world, bold and entertaining conversations around mental health, and the way dance can shape our perception of a place we love and ourselves in relation to it.
