Popular Theater Inc. is premiering Faux-Bia! The Musical, a brand new spectacular musical in the style of Aristophanes for one glamorous night at Carnegie's Zankel Hall on Sunday, December 2nd 2018 at 7 p.m.
Aristophanes was the first in the world to write a comedy around a female lead, Lysistrata, and furthermore dared to present her and her fellow women, 2,500 years ago, as better leaders than the men! This new, fast-paced, anti-war musical comedy picks up right after Aristophanes' famous heroine "Lysistrata" devises a brilliant plan to blackmail the men of Greece by withholding what men want the most from women.
Recognizing the state of current affairs in the world and the way they are seeping into our relationships, the writer and director Angelika Sandora revives the Aristophanic political satire with edge and mirth and a talented cast comprised of 28 actors, singers, dancers, and musicians all taking part of the action on stage. Special guest star in the iconic role of Lysistrata, Faith Hope Consolo.
President of the Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands and Executive Member of the World Federation of Clubs, Centers, Associations of UNESCO (WFUCA) responsible for Europe and North America, Mr. Ioannis Maronitis, awards Faux-Bia! The Musical Best Musical Of The Year 2018 and states:
"Ms. Sandora's philosophical ideas, worldly music and nontraditional casting is sure to bring together people of all backgrounds through the undisputable power of ancient Greek comedy. We are thrilled to be supporting such an endeavor with a Greek playwright producing an important feminist work with Aristophanic styling to New York City, which is 100% completely in line with our Club's goals in promoting the Greek civilization abroad and at the same time creating cross cultural dialogue.
