About the Work:

Ella Rosewood Dance: How does one distinguish oneself in a crowd of talented people? Billing (working title), an evening-length solo choreographed and performed by Ella Rosewood, questions the necessity to alter ones characteristics in order to be a working and self-sustaining dance performer. Rosewood's self-revelatory and surrealistic charades shed light on perceived uniqueness and skill. A conceptual counterpart to Yoko Ono's Cut Piece, Billing also pushes boundaries of performance and subject through direct interaction between audience and her physical looks.

EstadoFlotante: "Line 0" by EstadoFlotante is a dance work that explores different human connections through the concept of energy transformation using a dynamic and intense physicality. Energy travels through the body, the objects, and the space thereby transforming the environment and the atmosphere. "Line 0" searches for that primal connection that compels the dancers to connect with the present moment, the movement around them, the people around them, and the emotions their decisions and experiences create. This work is made up of eight dancers, Ava Untermyer, Emily Smith, Will Brown, Samsam Yung, Nuria Martin Fandos, Oscar Santana, Mor Mendel and Gabriel Sanchez with sound scape composed for this piece by Julio Cerda (Chile). This project has been possible thanks to generous funding by individuals

Ella Rosewood is a choreographer performer, educator, and solo dance preservationist based in NYC. She works full-time as a dance specialist at I.S. 347 School of Humanities in Bushwick, Brooklyn and is a member of the Dance/NYC Junior Committee. Rosewood holds dual degrees in Dance and Elementary Education from UW-Madison and is perusing her master's degree in Dance Education through the newly established Lincoln Center Scholars Alternative Certification Program, in Partnership with Hunter College. Her choreography has been seen internationally in Taipei Taiwan, and locally at the Judson Church, Dance New Amsterdam, Danspace Project, Dumbo Dance Festival, Chen Dance Center (as a Newsteps recipient), Green Space, Secret Theater, and FAB! Festival. Rosewood mounted "Second Skin: Seven Solo Dances" at the Merce Cunningham Studio which was featured in the May/June 2011 inspiration issue of Dance Studio Life Magazine.

Rosewood is actively preserving historic solo dances for performance and educational purposes and has works by seminal artists Jane Dudley, Anna Sokolow, Helen Tamiris, and more in her repertoire. Before graduate school, Rosewood danced with JoAnna Mendl Shaw's Equus Projects and was the Education Associate at New York Live Arts where she managed the educational programs for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company.

EstadoFlotante was conceived by Alvaro Gonzalez Dupuy in 2009 in Santiago de Chile based in Gonzalez Dupuy's ideas related to Movement Based performance and dance Movement. It is a creative platform that facilitates dance work based on Alvaro's Direction and collaborative projects coming from his initiative, which embraces a vision of movement and a way of research that challenges to be in a constant exchange of ideas and perspectives. Since coming to New York, E.F.'s work has been performed at Dance New Amsterdam, Danny Studios, Bridge for Dance, Sample Festival, Green Space Studio, Launch Pad and The Brick Theatre.

"The idea of EstadoFlotante (Floating State) comes from a mix of experiences that have influenced my process as a movement artist. I believe in dance as the base of community, the base of identity, a way to connect with our history and our deepest essence, and that essence is the key for the transformation of society. Energy is flowing and transforming matter very single millisecond, when we dance we move energy, and we are encouraging it to regenerate and renew ourselves and everything that surround us. When we dance, we are transforming our people, the culture, and the language, our perception of the world, our identity, the future and even our own beliefs."

This non-curated performance event features five or six choreographers each evening and includes a post-performance discussion with wine and cheese, moderated by Green Space's Artistic Director, Valerie Green.
