Beginning today, Monday, March 15, Dine in Brooklyn patrons will have the opportunity to contribute to Share the Table, a fundraising campaign with the New York City Coalition Against Hunger (NYCCAH). Dine in Brooklyn, an initiative of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Best of Brooklyn, Inc., will officially kick off eleven days of more than 200 Brooklyn restaurants serving up three-course dinner menus for just $25, three-course lunches for $20.10 and even some "two for the price of one" deals at participating eateries.

The generosity of Dine in Brooklyn customers and others will help meet the immediate food needs of low-income families in Brooklyn by supporting food purchases for the Brooklyn Alliance of Community Services, as well as expanding and improving the programs and policies necessary to enable low-income Brooklyn families to achieve greater economic self-sufficiency and move beyond their need for emergency food pantries and soup kitchens.

"As we celebrate Brooklyn's culinary offerings, we must also remember to give generously to those in need," said BP Markowitz. "As someone who grew up without much, in the days before food stamps, I know putting food on the table is often a struggle, and I want to thank the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, executive director Joel Berg, and those restaurants who are participating. We know we'll get lots of donations because Brooklynites and New Yorkers are generous, and we will be reaching so many since Dine in Brooklyn grows more popular each year."

"Hundreds of thousands of Brooklyn residents face the threat of hunger and are forced to use the borough's hundreds of food pantries and soup kitchens," said Joel Berg, executive director of New York City Coalition Against Hunger. "The best solution to this hunger problem in Brooklyn and America is improved governmental and economic policies-and Borough President Markowitz has been a consistent ally in our ongoing efforts to obtain those improved policies. But we also need to ensure that pantries and kitchens have the resources to fill in the gaps. That's why we are so thrilled that Marty has launched the Dine in Brooklyn/Share the Table initiative and that so many wonderful Brooklyn restaurants are proving their community spirit by supporting this vital effort."

Generous sponsors of Dine in Brooklyn include American Express, TD Bank, Time Out New York (media sponsor), Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn Restaurant Association, New York State Restaurant Association, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Great Kosher Restaurants magazine.
