David Harbour, Steven Boyer, Emily Bergl, And April Matthis Join Playing On Air's Annual Live Recording Benefit

Professional tennis players at war and mothers on the verge of a breakdown will come alive at Playing on Air's annual live recording and benefit on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 6:30pm at The 52nd Street Project's Five Angels Theater. Tickets are available from $150 at https://playingonair.org/events.

Tony nominees David Harbour (Netflix's "Stranger Things," Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf) and Steven Boyer (Hand To God, NBC's "Trial & Error") will star in David Auburn's AN UPSET, directed by Michael Wilson (The Trip to Bountiful). The world premiere of HATE BABY by Gracie Gardner, the inaugural winner of the James Stevenson Prize for Comedic Short Plays, will feature Emily Bergl ("Desperate Housewives," "Shameless") and April Matthis (Elevator Repair Service, Measure for Measure at the Public) and be directed by Claudia Weill (Girlfriends, Bump).

"Playing On Air is a treasure trove of some of the best theater practitioners working today," said Matthis. "It's a great listen." Added Bergl, "There is a particular sense of drama and imagination that only comes from listening to a play. American radio used to be filled with the works of great playwrights, and I always jump at the chance to continue this tradition."

Proceeds from the event will benefit Playing on Air's mission of breaking the barriers to live theater by bringing celebrated actors and compelling short plays into headphones, cars, living rooms, subways, and kitchens.

The 52nd Street Project is located at 789 10th Avenue. In addition to the star-studded performances, the evening will feature a cocktail hour, silent auction, and onstage party. Preview the silent auction items at https://playingonair.org/silent-auction-items. For donation and sponsorship opportunities, please contact Michele O'Brien at michele@playingonair.org

On public radio and podcast, Playing on Air is the home of America's greatest playwrights, actors, and directors - a new way to experience theater. Each short audio play features electric performances and intimate conversations with stars from stage & screen. Recent episodes have featured Timothée Chalamet, Audra McDonald, Michelle Williams, Zoe Kazan, Adam Driver, Denis O'Hare, and Bobby Cannavale in plays by Donald Margulies, Lynn Nottage, David Lindsay-Abaire, Julia Cho, Amelia Roper, and David Ives.

"It's an incredible thing," said Auburn. "A-list American actors, directors, and playwrights, working at the top of their game, in both live settings and studio recordings."
