Crashbox Theater Company, a downtown arts organization led by women and focused on the development of new work by emerging voices, announces two new programs in their upcoming season. In its seven years of programming, Crashbox has developed and promoted the work of over 30 playwrights and collaborated with over 300 artists through programs like reading series, Read. Play. Write., which will return this fall for its sixth season, and the Living Room Reading series, focusing on providing dramaturgical insight and curated attention for the further development of early drafts of new plays.
When asked about her experience with Crashbox, two-time Read. Play. Write. participant, Charly Evon Simpson said, "...whether it's talking about new projects or them supporting my work when it's done with other theater groups, being in the audience, I think that's a really important feeling that not only does someone enjoy my work but they are invested in my career and seeing where it goes."
On their importance to emerging writers, Read. Play. Write. 5 playwright A.P. Andrews adds,"Crashbox swoops in to kind of fill in that gap that's super necessary in bringing emerging playwrights from the level where they're still honing and developing their craft into a place where they can more fully realize everything that they've wanted to do as playwrights, it gives them the encouragement and the confidence to be able to do that."
Interested in promoting individualized voices, the women of Crashbox Theater Company are looking to raise $10,000 to continue promoting the curated development of new works through these programs and the launch of two new programs: Write. Play. Launch (a generative program providing six writers community, structure, and feedback in the creation of new work over a one-year residency), and the Playwright Sponsorship (aimed at bridging the gap between reading and full production, a scholarship awarded yearly to a playwright to be put towards the curated further development of their play).
